The initial directive from the homeowners was "farmhouse modern". I wanted to understand what specifically within that style my clients were drawn to, extract those details and then translate it through a more timeless and refined lens; something that felt more historic, but also appealed to their interest in modern furnishings.
The Scandinavian influences allowed for us to lean into using mid century furnishings which appealed to the clients modern taste, while still having the rustic elements which allowed for a true "hygge" lifestyle. The juxtaposition of modern elements with aged, antiquated ones was vital in creating the right blend. I knew that having Heritage as partners would be the key element to give the interior the character and history I hoped for. Seth and Emily not only provided incredible insight and knowledge, but were perfect collaborators on the design and execution. The home truly gained it's soul after the reclaimed elements were installed. There's a romance and energy to having hand-hewn, natural architectural elements in a space and I can't imagine this house without them.

A mutual love of community and collaboration synthesized in the Birches Lakeside project. The Hurleys are old friends we met when we custom built a fireplace mantel for their home years ago. To renovate their lakeside home, a genius team merged which included the venerable designer, Brady Matthews, of Sojourn Design House in Austin, TX, and Matustik Builders of Lake Geneva, WI.
Working on site and remotely, Heritage transplanted the original mantel, installed multiple custom finished beams, and created custom shelving with Artisan metal work from Tyler Architectural Metals.
